Review:I bought this in Jan/2018. In August of the same year, it caused a malfunction and thank goodness it didn’t catch on fire. What exactly happened: I arrived home one evening and couldn’t figure it out what was the “motor” noise I was hearing. I was surprised to find my cats so freaked out because of that noise that they were hiding under my bed and spent the whole day without food or water. After a quick search, I found out that this shredder had been running the entired day, even though its switch was on “auto” mode. It didn’t make any sense why that was happening since it had been several days since the last time I used it. That day the “auto mode” just decided to malfunction and became “on mode” out of the blue (AND AGAIN, its switch was on AUTO not ON). The machine was running for Gosh-knows-how-many-hours, and it was extremely hot. I believe that if I had come home a little later, it would’ve caught on fire. After the machine cooled down, I investigated it and didn’t find any piece of paper stuck on it or anything similar. The shredder seemed clean, and there was no apparent reason for that episode. Since that day, the AUTO MODE works just like the ON MODE. I fear for a fire, so I don’t let it plugged on an outlet if I don’t need to use it, but I also have been fearful of using this machine again. I have decided to write a review now because I am sick and tired of looking at it at my house. It’s just there, collecting dust and taking space in my room. I cannot even sell it because it does not work properly. It’s a piece of garbage, and it has been less than a year that I have bought it. If regret could kill me, I would be dead meat now. I really wished I could get my money back. DO NOT BUY IT! It has a tendency for malfunction, and it can become a hazard in your home. Too late for a return or refund, but I hope I can avoid other costumers from purchasing it. Read more

Review:After about 6 months of use and shredding a minute or so of junk mail, I left the room and smelled something burning. When I returned I saw the plastic on the top melted. In the future I will opt for the more expense high quality one to have that fire safety piece of mind. Read more

Review:Good shredder. If it fits, it shreds. If it gets stuck, put it in reverse and smack the side of the shredder head. It will reverse the object back out. If it ever gets stuck shredding small stuff, take the cover off the bottom of the shredder head held on by two screws. Shake the head until the pieces fall out of that slot. Or shoot compressed air in there. Then run the machine in reverse for 30 seconds. This will warm the motor. I have shredded every Amazon box in small strips, appliance boxes, newspapers, mail, cereal box, pizza box, packaging box, and paper I've touched since owning it. I feed it to my red wrigglers once a month with table scraps and crushed shells. I have literally shredded entire pallets worth of cardboard through this thing. I shred a 40 gallon garbage bag a week in cardboard and random paper. Lube the blades with vegetable oil while running the machine in reverse, not shredder oil and don't use lubricant sheets. Otherwise if you use it for compost, the shredder oil is machine oil and you've contaminated your supply. Thicker pieces will shred but they will shred into strips. So keep in mind just because it fits, your thickness may exceed optimal security concerns. I shredded every single thing I could get my hands on. It does white paper fantastic, soda boxes pretty well, and everything is later digested by these worms. I found myself shredding things put out in the front of my library and they ate that too. Magazines, glossy paper, etc. So for my use? This is perfect. Short run time, but worth it. I got it during a lightning deal for $35. And I'd say for a person looking to become a vermpicoster, this is decent. If you have an Amazon prime account and order as much as I do, you will have a garage full of food for worms and carbon for compost in no time. I have something close to six cubic yards of shredded cardboard in huge bags, in refrigerator boxes, and in the worm bins. They can't get enough. Cool thing about this? Amazon can't switch to plastic packing because it would kill the earth and that means an unlimited supply for you. Get it. Read more

Review:I needed a new shredder and my companies really cracking down on expenses, so when I saw I could get a 12 page crosscut shredder for $50 in Amazons brand, I thought it was worth a try...then I saw this unit. Micro cut, class 4 security, but only 6 pages...hmm. I opted to try this one instead because I'm a gardener so all my shredded material gets used as mulch. The unit arrived later that day, love the same day delivery in the Phoenix area, and was impressed with how little packaging they manage to use, enviro-friendly for sure. I plugged it in and had some old mortgage docs I'd found while cleaning the garage. Despite the inch thick stack of mortgage documents, it didn't take that long to shred everything. One page, it doesn't even notice papers passing through it, two pages, almost the same, three pages, you can tell it's starting to work. This morning, just so I can say I tested it, I ran six pages, seven pages, eight pages, I'm not trying more, but I will say it cut eight pages without stopping. If you are like me and normally shred a few things a day, and want the security of Class 4, confetti size shred, you'll be happy with this unit. Given the chance to purchase again, I'd choose this unit, especially after seeing how it handles six pages. Read more

Review:The machine is a nice size (not too big), and reasonably quiet in operation. The machine features an overheat light, auto forward switch, and manual reverse switch. It shreds paper into quite small pieces (security level 4) and I found that these compact down better than the cross-cut shredded pieces. One tip - the instructions say that you can use basic vegetable oil to maintain it. I purchased the "Shredder Oil" and regret that now as I found out that it is just expensive Canola oil ! Overall, I am very pleased that I purchased this one instead of a more expensive 'brand' machine. Read more

Review:>> EDIT: I previously said there was no need to use specialized oil. I've come to understand that it wouldn't be considered best practice. Therefore I'm amending this review. DO NOT USE vegetable oil in shredders (even if it says so in the manual). It gums up and it will eventually destroy it. Use synthetic oil. I've personally switched to "Swingline ShredMaster Synthetic Shredder Oil" (ASIN: B0013L9DUI). << This is without a doubt the cheapest micro-shredder you can get. The pieces are small enough at just around 1x0.5 cm which should be plenty for every domestic use. The shredder seems sturdy and is actually surprisingly heavy but I wouldn't use it in a professional environment. It looks ok for occasional use but not for a continuous one like you might see in a busy office. It shreds credit cards and can handle 6 sheets easily. This comes with the standard features like auto feed and a safety killswitch that prevents it from working if the head is removed from the bin (useful if you have kids around). Bin size is adequate and there is a handy windows which shows how full it is. Read more

Review:Had this unit just over 1 year. 5 stars for the micro cutting. 1 star for quality. 4 of the screws in the housing broke the plastic when I was lifting the unit off to clean the bin, rendering it unusable. No warranty now. Had to use JB Weld to glue the sucker together. Will never be able to open it now, but at least it works. Only lightly used for home use too. 👎🏻 Read more

Review:I had a low-end confetti shredder from ConceptSolutions which jammed on a credit card & died. After much struggle and a crowbar trying to pry the card out, I replaced it. I was surprised by the weight of this new shredder. I had a pailfull of documents and was NOT looking forward to stopping and going to cool machine off. The old one would stop and cool off which is normal. Well not so. I plowed through the papers in 2 sessions. Machine didn't stop once to cool down and boy am I happy with this buy. First the size of the confetti was half of the old shredder. Real security there. The papers didn't jam in the gears either. I used to have to use tweezers to pry paper jammed out. No issues with this one. Smooth and not one jam. I did a whole recycle bagful of confetti. This a no brainer and 200% better than my old one. I'm happy the old one choked on an expired credit card because I have a good shredder now. Thanks to Amazon Basics for a wonderful product & quick delivery. Read more

Review:THIS IS A SUPER BUY MAKES TINY CONFETTI FLAKES OF PAPER VERY SECURE. HAS AN INDICATOR LIGHT WHEN IT GETS TOO HOT AND THE TOP HAS A BUILTIN HANDLE TO EMPTY THE WASTE BASKET. IS FOR 6 SHEETS THICKNESS AT A TIME BUT I ONLY DO 4 AND WONT PUT A CREDIT CARD THROUGH IT AND NO STAPLES AND PAPER CLIPS ANYTHING THAT MIGHT STRAIN THE MOTOR LEAVE IT! UNIT WILL LAST LONGER AND NO TIRESOME PAPER UNCLOGGING PLEASE DISCONNECT POWER BEFORE DOING A HAND DECLOG! THOSE GRINDERS ARE POWERFUL! I PRICED THIS TYPE ALL OVER TO MICRO CUT SOME PLACES WANTED MINIMUM $170 AND MORE SO WHEN I SAW THIS ONE FOR ABOUT $50 I GOT ONE RIGHT AWAY LOADS OD CHEAP CROSS CUTS BUT THE MORE DESIRABLE MICRO CUT TYPE HARDER TO FIND IN STORES AND A LOT MORE MOMEY. THIS IS FOR HOUSEHOLD USE NOT A BUSINESS TYPE WHERE LOADS MORE PAPER TO DISPOSE OF. Read more
